Better known as white fillings. The tooth-colored composite resin fillings provide a conservative and highly aesthetic solution in comparison to the old type of amalgam fillings. In addition, resin fillings are ideal for small to middle-sized cavities. In cases of larger cavities, the best choice is the use of composite or porcelain inlays-onlays.
Advantages
-
- High aesthetics. With the use of the electronic spectrograph, the choice of color may be made with high precision. As a result, the fillings blend in perfectly with the surrounding natural teeth.
- They do not contain mercury.
- The process is completed in one appointment.
- Conservative therapy. No need to drill on healthy teeth.
- The latest generation of resins are extremely strong and durable.
- The material is bonded to the tooth, thus increasing its structure in contrast with the amalgam which requires more extensive drilling to be durable.
- No removal of the non-carious dental substance
Inlays-Onlays
In cases of larger fillings, the recommended method of restoration is by inlays-onlays. These are fillings that are produced in a lab and are later cemented on the tooth. During the first appointment, after the decay and/or the old filling is removed, an impression is taken, and a temporary filling is applied on the tooth. The dental technician produces the inlay-onlay structure which during the second appointment is cemented on the patient’s tooth. It has been proven that these types of restorations are long lasting.
